How To: Clean Make-Up Brushes

Cleaning your make-up brushes is super important! Not only will it allow you to apply make-up more evenly but it also prevents bacteria growth.

As a rule your should clean your brushes every week or two if they are used for dry make-up. If they are used for wet, consider washing every day or two

These are two techniques I would consider using because they are easy and cheap:
  • Vinegar: This is my favorite because I always have white vinegar at home. Simply mix 1 part vinegar with 2 parts warm water. Dunk your brushes for about 2 minutes and then rinse under running water. Be gentle!
  • Shampoo: Apply a small dab of shampoo to your brush and message it in. Once the brush looks clean, rinse. Some say baby shampoo would be best but I usually use what I have around.
For Drying: Lay the brushes flat on a towel. Make sure they are in their natural form during drying. You can also dry with the bristles pointing down but DO NOT dry with the bristles facing up. Allow the brushes to dry completely before using again.

Regularly cleaning your brushes can significantly lengthen their life and give you a healthy and beautiful face with no more bacteria!

How do you clean your brushes and how often?
